Jake Godfrey, Ph.D.
Director
Dr. Jake Godfrey is Director of the Center for Psychology and Education. He is a Licensed Psychologist and Certified Health Care Provider. His interests and specialties include: psychological and psychoeducational assessment of individuals preschool through adult age; individual and family therapy addressing a wide range of clinical concerns; and parent and school consultation. As a therapist, he has particular interest in helping clients of all ages better address anxiety coping concerns, including those related to generalized anxiety, panic disorder, specific phobias, obsessive compulsive disorder, school refusal, and in the context of performance situations (e.g., academic testing, athletic competition, and public speaking), using cognitive-behavioral treatments. Many of his clients are impacted by ADHD or learning disorders and he particularly enjoys helping this population further develop skills for autonomous functioning through therapy and consultation. He has served as court appointed individual therapist of children and teens coping with high conflict divorce and as such has worked in collaboration with court appointed parent coordinators. He is also trained in the administration of Cogmed, a working memory training program. Dr. Godfrey completed his undergraduate studies in Psychology, with a Certificate in Human Development, at Duke University; he received his master's and doctoral degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He completed his clinical internship at The Children's Hospital of Denver, in Denver, CO.
Jake and his family have lived in Chapel Hill since 2003. In addition to enjoying time with his family, Jake is an avid tennis player, trail runner, and general outdoor enthusiast.

Chris Weintrob, Ph.D.
Staff Psychologist
Dr. Christopher S. Weintrob is a licensed clinical psychologist at the Center for Psychology and Education, PLLC. Dr. Weintrob provides psychological and psychoeducational assessment for individuals from school-age to late adulthood with a focus on examining emotional determinants of educational difficulties and providing intervention-focused reports and feedback. As a therapist, Dr. Weintrob sees individual clients ages 12 and up to treat a variety of psychological symptoms and behaviors with particular focus on anxiety, relationship difficulties, and problems related to existential questions and life transitions. He also sees couples and families to treat interpersonal problems. In terms of treatment modalities, Dr. Weintrob often uses Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Structural Family Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, and Emotion Focused Therapy for Couples.
Dr. Weintrob completed his undergraduate studies at the University of California-Los Angeles with a degree in psychology, and earned his Master’s Degree and PhD at Alliant International University in San Francisco in the Child-Family Track. Dr. Weintrob completed his clinical internship at the Guidance Center in Long Beach, CA, and continued to work in community mental health and private practice in California and New York.
Chris and his family settled in Durham in 2017, after many moves around the country and the globe. In his free time, Chris enjoys spending time with his two children and is a committed sports and music enthusiast.

Marie Dean
Office Manager
Ms. Marie Dean has been a part of the staff since CPE originated in November of 2004 as the Office Manager and Intake Coordinator. Prior to working at CPE, Ms. Dean worked at North Carolina Neuropsychiatry, in a similar capacity. She and her husband, Keith, moved to the area in September 1980 from Gastonia, NC. They have three grown children.
April Farley
Administrative Assistant
Ms. April Farley has been a part of the CPE staff since February of 2022. She is a native of the Raleigh-Durham area, a graduate of North Carolina State University (and proud supporter of the Wolfpack), and currently lives with her family, including her husband and their two children, in Cary, NC. In addition to supporting the Wolfpack, she enjoys spending time with her family, gardening, and reading, and she is involved in several community related volunteer activities.
Don Stedman, Ph.D.
Senior Advisor
Dr. Don Stedman is a retired Psychologist and former Pediatric Psychologist at Duke University Medical Center, Director of Special Education, Associate Director of the Frank Porter Graham Child Development Center, and Professor and Dean Emeritus of the School of Education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
As Senior Advisor in the Center for Psychology and Education, Dr. Stedman has assisted in the development of Center training, research, consultation and outreach activities. Don is a graduate of St. Bonaventure University, and completed graduate studies in clinical and developmental psychology at the University of Rochester and at George Peabody College, Vanderbilt University. His post doctoral work was at Sonoma State Hospital and Child Study Center at the University of California, Berkeley.
Don and his family have lived in the Triangle area since 1963.
